I played the role of Floris, a young Astronomer.
I was extremely excited to be offered a part in a movie … and thrilled when, at the end of September 2000, I discovered I was to be flown out to Denmark. My actual scenes were filmed on location outside Amsterdam: one opposite Diana Quick and the other with Greg Wise. On my day off I had the chance to explore Amsterdam, and to add to the pleasure of the whole experience, during a dinner break one day I found myself sitting next to Stephen Fry, and very much enjoyed the opportunity of a brief chat!
Some trivia: the Director, Jeroen Krabbe (who also plays the role of Gabriel in the movie), filmed the wedding scene between the two central characters (Onno & Ada) at the same location as his own wedding back in 1964! Also, the Writer/Producer and his wife both have cameos in the movie too.
Due to a theatrical engagement I was unable to make the Official British Screening of ‘The Discovery of Heaven’ so I have no idea if my two short scenes ever made the final edit!
The film was screened at various Film Festivals around the world, including; Flanders International Festival in Belgium, International Festival in Rotterdam, Karlovy Vary Festival and European Union Festival in the Czech Republic, WorldFest in Houston America, and European Film Festival in Hong Kong!
At the Nederlands Film Festival ‘The Discovery Of Heaven’ went on to win the Golden Calf Award for Best Screenplay, and was nominated for Best Film Award. It was also nominated for Best Film Award at the Catalonian International Film Festival in Spain.
