When murder becomes a virtual reality... from the BAFTA award-winning writer Lynda La Plante.

After being dumped by his dominant girlfriend, psychology student Scott Miller finds solace in an intriguingly addictive computer game called ‘Killer Net’. Having ‘stalked’ his imaginary victim and committed the flawless cyber-murder, he is offered the opportunity to play again, but this time with his own choice of victim. The game-play takes a horrifying twist when his ‘victim’ (his girlfriend) is found dead – slain and disposed of in exactly the same way.

Faced with a battle to convince the Police of his innocence Scott, with the help of his flatmate Joe, is forced to delve deeper into the murky world of ‘Killer Net’ … the internet can be a dangerous place indeed!

This stylish tale of urban murder features Paul Bettany (who went on to shine in much bigger things) as the arrogant ‘Joe’ who knows Scott’s girlfriend better than he lets on … alongside actors Tam Williams, Emily Woof and Christopher Neame.

My role was that of ‘Brian’, a Student from Brighton University, who is interested in getting his hands on the ‘Killer Net’ game.

This was my first professional television appearance and although I had filming experience and training at drama school I was, needless to say, a little nervous. Thankfully, my first scene was with the actor Simon Meacock (who had been a few years ahead of me at Central - a friendly face goes a long way!). My second scene was with the now famous Paul Bettany. Unfortunately, as is often the case with ‘supporting’ roles, I had a line or two cut in the editing studio!

This murder mystery drama is an interesting retrospective on mid-nineties Brighton and student life, with scenes featuring ‘raves’ (which were at their peak at that time) and the fashions of the day, as well as the early days of the internet. Broadband and camcorders were still a twinkle in Microsoft’s eye, and in order to communicate with someone live online you really did need to do some major surgery to your hard drive!

A smash hit for Channel 4 drama, ‘Killer Net’ also featured Jason Orange (from ‘Take That’ success) as well as an early performance from ‘Footballers Wives’ Zoe Lucker! Geoff Sax, has gone on to direct the popular TV Series ‘Tipping The Velvet’ and the 2005 supernatural-thriller movie ‘White Noise’, starring Michael Keaton.

‘Killer Net’ was originally released on Video, and then released on DVD in 2005.
